Designation of origin of products is a name of a specific place, area or, in exceptional cases, the name of a country, used to label products originating from such place, area or country, if quality or characteristic property of the products are exclusively or essentially attributable to its geographical area with its characteristic natural or human factors and production, processing and preparation of the product takes place exclusively within the determined place, area or countries.

Geographical indication of the product is a name of a specific place, area or, in exceptional cases, the name of a country, used to label a product originating from such place, area or country, if the product possesses a specific quality, goodwill or characteristic property attributable to its place, area or country and production, processing or preparation of such product takes place within the determined geographical place, area or country.

Protection of designation of origin or geographical indication is protection of collective rights. Since protection of designation of origin or geographical indication of products result from their specific origin given by limited production conditions, such conditions have to be fully accepted by producers themselves.
